And when Jesus was baptized, immediately he went up from the water, and behold, the heavens were opened to him.

Matthew 3:16

After Jesus was baptized in the Jordan River by John the Baptist, he traveled to the wilderness. While he was isolated, hungry, and thirsty the devil attacked him with three different approaches. His reputation, his health, and his power were questioned by the devil through misquoting the Bible.

I think about that scenario often, especially when I see a new believer go through persecution. Why would the persecution ramp up after making an eternal decision to follow Jesus since the enemy cannot take away your salvation? The answer – he does not want you to share your faith with others.

When Jesus died on the cross for our sins, defeated death, and rose again carrying with him the keys to life, the story could have concluded then. Rather, Jesus gave his followers the gift of salvation through belief in him and then challenged them to share this good news with others. That is hard for me to wrap my brain around. Jesus does all the work, sets the example, takes away our sin, and then he allows us to share that news with others?

That is one of the biggest differences between Christianity and every other world religion. The gospel has never been intended to be monopolized and controlled. Jesus actually wants us to receive salvation and then let that hope translate into reaching more people for the gospel.

This concept seems to be centered in what takes place at Heritage Christian Academy. As we finish this school year and begin to make plans for next school year, please join me in prayer to make much of Jesus Christ, God our Father, and the Holy Spirit in our school community.
