Tasty

You can call me anything you want, just don’t call me late for dinner. Growing up I heard this one a lot. It was not only fun to hear it, but it was even better to catch a glimpse of the face of the one who said it with a wry smile. 

Things like this, as simple as they are, shaped me. They were signs of investment and an opening to deeper relationships. I look to use every method possible to let you and your kids know I care as I lead. I hope you know how honored I feel to serve in the role as Chief Administrator at HCA. I truly feel called to be here.

This morning was one of those rough mornings that I awoke at 12 AM and couldn’t get back to sleep. I utilized the time and prayed as I hoped for sleep. By 2 AM I knew it was not coming so I decided to start my devos early and see if the Lord was rousing me for a specific reason.

I began my reading in Ezekiel 3 and pondered the title the NASB translators gave the chapter, Ezekiel’s Commission. In it, Ezekiel is given a scroll and told to eat it. He obeys and is rewarded with the taste as sweet as honey in his mouth. 

I sat on this image, blurry eyed and hoping for sleep. It was now 3 AM, so I decided to take the Word and lie back down. I let the image go deeper as I lay there waiting for my real time to awake. I began to see how sweet it is to taste a call from the Lord. 

Suddenly my mouth was sweetened with a burning desire to serve the community more. I then clearly saw the faithful staff and teachers of HCA and felt my smile widen at the same revelation for each of them. Please know how blessed we are to have this staff and these teachers surrounding our kids with their faith, wisdom and love. Each of them has been given a scroll to eat and on it was the call to take the positions he/she holds here. They have tasted the honey and serve with passion.

When my alarm finally sounded, I returned to my devos. It was here that I read the rest of Ezekiel 3 and saw the detailed description of the frustrations that Ezekiel would face as he faithfully fulfilled this call. I saw the same trials and tribulations each one of us here at HCA feel in this description. The sweetness of the call drives us on, but how humbling it is to know it is only by God that we accomplish anything.

We take great comfort in knowing that the workings of the Lord and His glory will be shown as we proceed through the teaching, modeling and encouraging of Biblical principles in your sons and daughters. Even though we know this, even though we have tasted the sweet call of the Lord to be here, we need your prayers.

Things are crazy all over our country and in the world. We know God is in control, but the news can often rattle us. Yesterday’s tragedy in Georgia is all too common in schools. We must diligently pray for them all. As you do, please partner with us in your prayers. We truly taste the sweetness of it all and you can call us whatever you want to, just don’t forget to call on the Lord for us in your prayers 🙂
